Most countries give you one headline. Zimbabwe gives you a storyline: misty mountains in the east, living city culture in Harare, an ancient African empire in stone, rhino tracked on foot among painted caves, and a finale of falling water you hear before you see. English is spoken everywhere, the US dollar works everywhere, and the welcome is famously warm. All you have to do is come.
The case for Zimbabwe
Victoria Falls β Mosi-oa-Tunya, "the smoke that thunders" β drops the Zambezi over a curtain roughly 1.7 km wide. Its spray is visible from kilometres away. It is one of the natural wonders of the world, and it's ours.
Five UNESCO World Heritage sites in one country β including Great Zimbabwe, the largest ancient stone city in sub-Saharan Africa and the medieval kingdom that gave the nation its name.
Hwange shelters one of the largest elephant populations on Earth β tens of thousands strong β and Zimbabwe's professional guide licence is regarded as among the toughest in Africa. Walking safaris here are the real thing.
Uncrowded parks, honest value, English spoken everywhere and people who treat visitors like long-lost family. Travellers arrive curious and leave loyal.
Our signature journey
Ten days, one direction, the whole storyline. Fly into Harare, travel east to west through mountains, monuments and big game, and fly home from Victoria Falls β no backtracking, every day a new chapter. Small groups, expert guides, all the logistics on us.
Beyond the route
The thunder, the rainforest, the bridge β plus white-water, bungee and helicopter flips for the brave.
Zimbabwe's largest park: elephants in their thousands, lion, painted dogs and waterholes that never sleep.
A UNESCO wilderness on the Zambezi floodplain β canoe past hippos and walk among giants. Pure, raw safari.
One of the world's largest man-made lakes. Houseboats, tiger fishing and sunsets that look photoshopped.
Walk the stone corridors of a medieval African capital β no mortar, all mastery, eight centuries old.
Balancing granite, sacred shrines, ancient rock art and some of the best rhino tracking in Africa.
Nyanga and Bvumba: trout streams, coffee farms, mountain mist and Zimbabwe's rooftop views.
"The place of elephants" in the wild south-east β red cliffs, baobabs and barely another vehicle in sight.
Timing it right
The dry season: cool mornings, golden light and prime game viewing as wildlife gathers at the waterholes. Aligns perfectly with the European summer holidays.
The Falls at full thunder. After the rains, the Zambezi peaks and Victoria Falls is at its most ferocious β bring a raincoat, leave with a story.
The green season: lush landscapes, newborn wildlife, spectacular birding and the best value of the year. Zimbabwe with the saturation turned up.
Good to know
International airports at Harare and Victoria Falls β fly into one, home from the other. We meet you at arrivals.
Many nationalities get a visa on arrival, and the KAZA UniVisa (about US$50β65) covers Zimbabwe and Zambia for 30 days with Botswana day trips. We confirm exactly what your passport needs before you fly.
The US dollar is used everywhere and English is an official language β menus, signs, small talk, sorted.
Tourist routes are welcoming and well-travelled. For the Zambezi valley and lowveld parks we advise on malaria precautions with your itinerary, and travel insurance is strongly recommended.
You don't drive β we do. Comfortable vehicles, a licensed pro guide, and the country rolling past your window.
Local SIMs and lodge Wi-Fi keep you reachable β and your group chat thoroughly jealous.
